Sistas In Soccer Mission Statement

It is the goal of Sistas In Soccer to provide a place for women of all ages to play the game of soccer in a fun and recreational setting, to meet new people, to get some exercise and to do it in a manner that is both kind and cordial to all other members of the league. Our mission is not to fundraise, create a competitive atmosphere, to cause harm or to undermine other players or leagues.

What Is Sistas in Soccer?

Amber Mercer started playing soccer for the first time during the summer of 2008.  She registered when she was 8 months pregnant knowing she was giving birth 3 weeks before the season began. So pumped to begin with Sistas, she practiced with her new team up until she gave birth!!!  So, 3 weeks after beautiful Aaliyah was born, the doc gave her the OK and she was on the field for the first time.
"I was so outta shape but I didn't care!  I loved the sport and was having so much fun trying to run up and down the fields. 4 years later I am still playing with Sistas and I love every moment of it!  It's fun and it fits my lifestyle.  I always look forward to Sunday nights, aka girls night, to play an hour of soccer."
When Amber decided to move back home to Kitchener in 2010, she continued to  play in London Sistas. It was a long drive and she started thinking,  "Why not bring Sistas to Kitchener?  I know tonnes of ladies who want some fitness added to their lifestyle. "

So Amber contacted Erin and Chris and they were pumped!  Now she is on board with the Sistas team promoting a fun way to exercise and a great way to get out and meet some amazing women. This is a great sport for beginners, intermediate or advanced players. Each team is designed with all levels. So we hope each and every woman playing this year and the years following can find the passion behind Sistas like we all have. Remember, "Kick like a girl!"

In the spring of 2003, Christine Penny & Erin Weston, (who are sisters-in-law), tried to find a women's recreational soccer league in the city of London, Ontario. Alas, there was no such league. So with some quick phone calls, some late nights and a great contact with the Nor'West Optimist Club, Sistas In Soccer was born.

Our first season was a huge hit. Over 200 women registered to play this "just for fun" league and we had a blast.  All that is required of any "sista" is a great team spirit, a desire to play the game and a fabulous sense of humour. We often burn more calories laughing than playing soccer.

Since it's inception in 2003, Sistas in Soccer has grown to over 1000 women playing in London and has branched out to 4 cities. We are excited to welcome Kitchener and Byron to the Sista-hood this year!

Sistas In Soccer is not for anyone looking to play competitive soccer, however it is for EVERYONE looking to play soccer, have a lot of fun and meet new people.
