It is the goal of Sistas In Soccer to provide a place for women of all ages to play the game of soccer in a fun and recreational setting, to meet new people, to get some exercise and to do it in a manner that is both kind and cordial to all other members of the league. Our mission is not to fundraise, create a competitive atmosphere, to cause harm or to undermine other players or leagues.
This is Jacquie Reeds, our Hamilton convener. She has run the Hamilton chapter of Sistas for three seasons now. She is a wife to TJ and mother to a beautiful baby girl, Jillian.
Jacquie played Sistas in Hamilton for the first time in 2008 and loved it. She was new to the area and found it a great way to connect and meet new friends.
Originally from a small town near Lindsay, Ontario, Jacquie was always involved is some sort of sport but she didn't try soccer until just a couple of years ago.
She moved to Hamilton in June 2008 for an internship to become a Registered Dietitian. She joined Sistas and then married her highschool sweetheart in August.
She admits to nearly failing soccer in grade 9 gym and never wanting to take another P.E. class because of that!! However,
since then she's found that sport is definitely for her and plays everything from Ultimate Frisbee to Extreme Dodgeball and most sports in between. We are thrilled to have Jacquie on the Sistas team and look forward to working with her this season.
How did Sistas in Soccer begin?
In the spring of 2003, Christine Penny & Erin Weston tried to find a women's recreational soccer league in the city of London, Ontario. Alas, there was no such league. So with some quick phone calls, some late nights and a great contact with the Nor'West Optimist Club, Sistas In Soccer was born.
Our first season was a huge hit. Over 200 women registered to play this "just for fun" league and we had a blast. Most of our players have little or no soccer experience. All that is required of any "sista" is a great team spirit, a desire to play the game and a fabulous sense of humour. We often burn more calories laughing than playing soccer.
Since its inception in 2003, Sistas in Soccer has grown to over 1000 women playing in London and has branched out to 2 new cities. We are excited to welcome Hamilton and Windsor to the Sista-hood!
Sistas In Soccer is not for anyone looking to play competitive soccer, however it is for EVERYONE looking to play soccer, have a lot of fun and meet new people.
